SZA Congratulates Miley Cyrus On No. 1, Teases ‘Surprises Coming Soon’ – Billboard

SOS: Things are definitely not entirely calm on the SZA front. Though it’s only been less than two months since he dropped his chart-topping, critically acclaimed new album SOS, the R&B star is already teasing that more projects of his are still on the horizon, all while sharing love with other female artists. Like Miley Cyrus, whose single “Flowers” just debuted one spot ahead of SZA’s “Kill Bill” at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

“MAJOR congratulations to Miley!!!” SZA wrote on Wednesday morning (January 25), responding to a tweet about Cyrus’ recent chart triumph. “Excited for her album and working together.”

It’s unclear if by “working together,” SZA is referring to a collaboration with the “Midnight Sky” singer, whose album Endless Summer Vacation is out on March 10. Billboard has reached out to both artists’ teams for comment.

Then, celebrating her own continued success on the Hot 100, with SOS songs taking 12 spots on the most recent chart, dated Jan. 28, the “Good Days” musician tweeted, “This is wild as fk too,” before dropping a small bombshell: “Surprises coming soon.”

Released on January 13, “Flowers” is Cyrus’s second No. 1 single (following 2013’s “Wrecking Ball”), as well as her first to debut at the top spot. Meanwhile, SZA’s SOS is still holding strong atop the Billboard 200, posting its sixth straight week at No. 1 on the chart this week.

The salute to Cyrus isn’t the first time in recent weeks that SZA has graciously shared her spotlight with another superstar musician. Following false fan speculation that the two were battling each other in real life for chart success, SZA praised Taylor Swift’s Midnights, congratulating her on lead single “Anti-Hero”‘s historic Hot 100 reign. earlier this month.

“Congratulations to Tay Tay!” SZA posted on Instagram Stories. “And thank you so much, your album and your writing are phenomenal… as ALWAYS.”

Swift had also written in her story that she had been “listening to SZA’s album non-stop”. “I absolutely adore her music,” added the “All Too Well” singer-songwriter. “So much love and respect for her!!!”
